BYD
The BYD Auto Co., Ltd. is the automotive subsidiary of the listed Chinese multinational manufacturer, headquartered in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China. BYD Autos was established in January 2003 after BYD was acquired by Qinchuan Automobile Company in 2002. The industrial facilities consist of two production plants in Xi’an, an R&D center and a production plant in Shenzhen, a production plant in Changsha, a production plant in Shaoguan, and a research enter and parts factory in Shanghai. BYD has an electric bus assembly plant in Europe in Komarom, Hungary. BYD Auto is a manufacturer of electric vehicles with the highest level of vertical integration in the world.
Mostly BYD cars are sold in China; however, export markets include Bahrain, the Dominican Republic, Ukraine, and Moldova. The North American headquarters was opened in Los Angeles in 2011. As of 2013, BYD Auto sells the e6 and electric bus in the United States only as fleet vehicles. BYD has been supplying the Los Angeles Metro system with buses since 2015. A 2018 Los Angeles Times investigation found reliability issues with BYD buses.
