The 2024 Tonale’s power comes from a 285-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain with more than 30 miles of estimated all-electric range. Add in the elevated driving position and standard all-wheel drive that SUV buyers crave as well as the potential for a high-performance Quadrifoglio model – and the 2024 Tonale should be a compelling addition to a class that includes the BMW X1 , Mercedes-Benz GLA250 , Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40. The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale is the new entry point to the Alfa Romeo lineup in the United States. Inside, the round air vents and driver-focused dashboard layout are clearly developed from the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV. The dashboard also features a 12.3-inch digital gauge panel, and its three-spoke steering wheel gives a modern twist to the classic design. There’s also a pair of distinctive shift paddles. The interior is equipped with a mixture of aluminum trim and leather and microsuede surfaces. The front seats are particularly supportive and stylish too, with red contrast stitching and Alfa Romeo crests on the headrests.
Every Alfa Romeo 2024 Tonale comes standard with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It features Uconnect 5 software, which is shared with many other models under the Stellantis umbrella. Along with a customizable home screen, Tonale offers multiple customizable interfaces with up to five unique user profiles. Its outstanding standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless phone charging.

The Tonale is available with a single powertrain and all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid has a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder and a rear-axle-mounted electric motor that together produce 285 horsepower. Alfa equips the Tonale plug-in hybrid with a six-speed automatic transmission and a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that should provide more than 30 miles of electric-only range. All models drive on fully autonomous suspension; adaptive dampers are optional. The EPA has yet to release fuel economy ratings for the Tonale, but its plug-in hybrid powertrain could give it an efficiency edge over non-hybrid rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLA250 and BMW X1.
