The Lotus Cars Limited is a British car company based in Norfolk, England. Lotus produces sports cars and racing cars that are characterized by low weight and good driving characteristics. Lotus was previously involved in Formula One racing through the Lotus team and won the Formula One World Championship seven times. First available as a roadster, the car featured a twin-cam engine, four-wheel disc brakes and four-wheel independent suspension. Later versions with a fixed roof were offered.
Lotus makes pure sports cars, but memorable models such as the Lotus Espirit sports car and the Lotus Elise lightweight roadster represent the pinnacle. The company offers a mid-engine Lotus Emira sports car that is light in weight, sharp in corners and looks exotic. The electrified Lotus Evija is an exclusive supercar that should help promote the brand. Today, Lotus remains true to Chapman’s original desire to produce lightweight, racing-oriented sports cars. With tight cabin space, a stiff ride and minimal comfort and storage, modern Lotus cars are poor grocers.
