The 2024 Acura MDX also introduced the sport-oriented Type S trim, which features a powerful turbocharged V6 engine. It’s a nice addition to the MDX’s all-wheel-drive system, which, in addition to improving traction in snowy or icy conditions, helps the MDX feel more nimble when cornering on dry pavement. Overall, there’s a lot to like about the 2023 MDX, especially when you consider the value compared to European SUVs like the Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.

The Acura MDX 2024 variants has an attractive and premium interior filled with premium construction materials. It doesn’t quite live up to the high standards set by its wealthier European rivals, but it’s still a pleasant place to spend time. The Acura MDX has one of the most frustrating infotainment systems in the segment. While the 12.3-inch screen has sharp graphics, the touchpad used to control the infotainment functions is buggy and difficult to use while driving. There are some physical knobs and buttons that make controlling the audio and climate functions a bit easier, but this system is still one of the MDX’s main weaknesses.


The standard infotainment features: 12.3-inch display, touchpad controller, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless device charging, nine-speaker audio system, satellite radio, HD radio, USB port and Bluetooth. There is 16.3 cubic meters of space for the third row, 39.1 cubic meters for the second row and a maximum capacity of 71.4 cubic meters when both rear rows are folded. The front seats are comfortable, spacious and offer excellent lateral support. There are three sets of LATCH connectors for the MDX, one for each second-row seat and two anchors for the third-row seats.

The base 2023 MDX comes standard with a 290-horsepower V6, while the Type S trim has a 355-horsepower turbocharged V6. The standard V6 provides enough power for almost any driving situation. The optional turbo V6 offers a welcome boost over the base engine, and the Acura MDX Type S feels much livelier behind the wheel. The transmission is smooth for the most part, but some critics were unimpressed with its occasional hesitation when shifting.

The Acura MDX has decent gas mileage for the luxury midsize SUV segment. Front-wheel drive models get an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. With all-wheel drive, only see a 1 mpg reduction in highway fuel economy. The 2024 MDX is figure out with an EPA-estimated 21/17 mpg highway/city.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded the 2023 Acura MDX an overall safety rating of five out of five stars. The MDX received five stars in the side crash and four stars in the frontal crash and rollover tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety had not yet crash-tested the 2024 Acura MDX, but the nearly identical model earned top marks across the board. Acura MDX standard driver assistance and safety features include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, automatic braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, rearview camera, surround view parking camera system, traffic sign recognition, pedestrian detection, cross- traffic alert, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, parking sensors, traffic jam assist and head-up display.
